This beautiful Blodgett oven is the oldest operating Blodgett oven in the United States, according to a Todd visitor in the summer of 2022, who at Blodgett US headquarters. After apologizing for gaping awkardly across the bakery case while we asked how we could help him, he asked if he could come back in the kitchen to check out the oven. Thrilled that anyone else could appreciate it as much as we do, we welcomed him back and let him write down the serial number. A few weeks later, we became momentarily famous on the Blodgett US group chat :)
While we don't know where she started her long life, we do know that Emilie Enzmann, who first had the vision to transform the downstairs of the Mercantile into a bakery and who we purchased the building from in 2023, purchased the oven from Joe and Annie of Annie's Bakery in Asheville, where it had served them loyally in the early days of their business...in their garage.
